Song #3: “Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down

Songs April 17th, 2008

Hi guys,

so… did anyone know there were VIOLINS in this song?

1) Do you like the video?

2) Is is more or less interesting or confusing than “Hey there, Delilah”?

Here Without You

A hundred days have made me older
Since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have made me colder
And I don’t think I can look at this the same
But all the miles that separate
Disappear now when I’m dreaming of your face

I’m here without you baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time
I’m here without you baby
But you’re still with me in my dreams
And tonight it’s only you and me

The miles just keep rollin’
As the people leave their way to say hello
I’ve heard this life is overrated
But I hope that it gets better as we go

I’m here without you baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time
I’m here without you baby
But you’re still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl its only you and me

Everything I know, and anywhere I go
It gets hard but it wont take away my love
And when the last one falls
When it’s all said and done
It gets hard but it wont take away my love

I’m here without you baby
But you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby
And I dream about you all the time
I’m here without you baby
But you’re still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl its only you and me

Song #2: “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White Ts

Songs April 15th, 2008

Hi Everyone,

Here are the lyrics to the next song we listened to in class…

1) Do you like this song? Why or why not?

2) What do you think the song is about?

3) Do you think the video suits the song?

4) Bonus question: What subway train does Delilah take?

Enjoy the video and practice the song!

Hey there Delilah
What’s it like in New York City?
I’m a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Time Square can’t shine as bright as you
I swear it’s true

Hey there Delilah
Don’t you worry about the distance
I’m right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice it’s my disguise
I’m by your side

Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
What you do to me

Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl
Someday I’ll pay the bills with this guitar
We’ll have it good
We’ll have the life we knew we would
My word is good

Hey there Delilah
I’ve got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I’d write it all
Even more in love with me you’d fall
We’d have it all

Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me

A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they’ve got planes and trains and cars
I’d walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we’ll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you’re to blame

Hey there Delilah
You be good and don’t you miss me
Two more years and you’ll be done with school
And I’ll be making history like I do
You know it’s all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here’s to you
This ones for you

Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
Oh it’s what you do to me
What you do to me.

Veara’s Pick… “All I Want For Christmas”

Songs April 9th, 2008

All I Want For Christmas is You/Mariah Carey

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There’s just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true…
All I want for Christmas
Is you…

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don’t need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won’t make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you…
You baby

I won’t ask for much this Christmas
I won’t even wish for snow
I’m just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won’t make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won’t even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click
‘Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
You…

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children’s
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won’t you bring me the one I really need -
won’t you please bring my baby to me…

Oh I don’t want a lot for Christmas
This is all I’m asking for
I just want to see baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want him for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is
You…

All I want for Christmas is you baby… (repeat)

New York and Other Places

Lists April 9th, 2008

Hello Everbody!

This week we are working on adjectives + adverbs and comparative + superlative structures (comparing one thing to another, or comparing one thing to many things). So let’s talk about how our hometowns are different (or similar) to New York City by listing 3 things (or more!) that you find fascinating or strange or really cool about New York City…

I’ll go first…

1) New York is much bigger than Montreal and people move at a faster pace.

2) Montreal is much colder and snowier than New York (so stop complaining about the weather here!)

3) New Yorkers are more outspoken and weirder than Montrealers… last week I saw a man walking down the street with an ENORMOUS snake on his shoulders!

… your turn!

Gina

Introductions … and 3 things about you!

Introductions March 28th, 2008

Hello Intermediate C students!
This is the place for introductions… so tell us your name, where you are from, and … THREE things about yourself that we don’t already know!
I’ll start…
My name is Gina.
I’m originally from Montreal, Canada.
I’m afraid of flying (in airplanes).
I love walking on the beach.
I’m new to blogging so hope that my students who have blogs and personal pages will be able to teach ME something!
